Negotiations involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia in Abu Dhabi have concluded. Axios journalist Barak Ravid, citing Ukrainian officials, described the talks as “positive” and “constructive.” The parties agreed to hold another round of negotiations in Abu Dhabi as early as next week.
“Trilateral talks between U.S., Russia and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi were "positive" and "constructive", Ukrainian officials tell me. Another round of talks to be held in Abu Dhabi next week,” Ravid wrote on his X account, Caliber.Az reports.
January 24 marked the second day of discussions focused on a peace plan, with meetings held in multiple formats. Central topics included the establishment of buffer zones and the mechanisms for their control. Due to the confidential nature of the talks, specific details of any agreements remain undisclosed at this time.
The negotiations began on January 23, with delegations from Ukraine, Russia, and the United States convening in Abu Dhabi. The Ukrainian delegation was led by Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the primary focus of the talks would be the territorial question, specifically concerning the Donbas region.
Ahead of the discussions, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that the Russian side views the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbas as a key condition for progress.
Prior to the commencement of the talks, President Zelenskyy held consultations with the Ukrainian negotiation team. Following the first day, Umerov provided limited insights into the discussions, underscoring the cautious optimism surrounding the dialogue.
