Trump leaves door open for possible talks with Putin during potential China visit
US President Donald Trump has neither confirmed nor ruled out the possibility of meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during an anticipated visit to China.
Speaking to reporters during a meeting at the White House with Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., Trump was asked whether a meeting with Putin could take place in Beijing. “We have many possible meetings,” he replied, offering no further detail, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“I have been invited by many people and we will make a decision soon,” Trump added, suggesting that discussions about a potential visit to China are ongoing.
His remarks follow a statement made the previous day by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, who noted that a meeting between the Russian and US presidents could take place in Beijing during events in September commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory over militarist Japan.
The British media had earlier speculated that the leaders of the three major Allied powers—Russia, China, and the United States—might gather in China this September to mark the end of World War II. However, Peskov told media that the Kremlin currently has no official information regarding the possibility of such a trilateral summit.
