Six volcanoes erupt simultaneously across Indonesia

Six volcanoes across Indonesia are currently experiencing eruptions, with authorities maintaining heightened alert levels amid continued volcanic activity.

Level 3, the country’s second-highest alert status, has been imposed on Mounts Anak Krakatau, Semeru, Ibu, Lewotobi Laki-Laki and Sinabung. Meanwhile, Mount Lewotolok remains under a Level 2 alert, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Volcanic activity has been recorded in Indonesia since August 31. On September 6, Mount Semeru released an ash column reaching approximately 1,000 metres above the summit. Anak Krakatau has also continued to show signs of activity.

Indonesia’s Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation said the eruptions of Semeru and Anak Krakatau are not related to each other, as the two volcanoes are powered by separate magma systems.
