Bitcoin Liquid Network says $320 million withdrawn in hack

Liquid Network, a Bitcoin-based payments and settlement network, said on September 7 that about $320 million worth of cryptocurrency had been withdrawn from its federation wallet in a hack.

“Purported white-hat hackers” withdrew around 4,000 of the 4,200 bitcoin held in the Liquid Federation wallet, the network said in a post on X, Caliber.Az reports.

We are aware of a security incident on @Liquid_BTC. Purported white-hat hackers have withdrawn ~4,000 BTC (~$320 million) from the Liquid Federation wallet. The @Blockstream team is working on contacting them on-chain with a signed message.

“Liquid wallets will be impacted, and we're sorry for any ‌inconvenience,” Liquid Network said, adding that it had halted new transactions.

The funds were withdrawn through SideSwap, a settlement platform authorised to process withdrawals from the network. Liquid Network said, however, that the key used in the process had not been compromised.
