ISIS cases pile up in northern Israel as fourth suspect faces charges

07 September 2026 12:13

A 19-year-old resident of northern Israel was indicted on September 7 on charges of membership in a terrorist organisation, becoming the fourth person from the region indicted over alleged ties to the Islamic State (ISIS) in less than two weeks.

The latest case comes amid a series of investigations that also include two alleged plans to attack Israeli security forces and a former IDF soldier accused of preparing to travel abroad to join ISIS.

Yaqoub Shibli, from the northern village of Shibli, was arrested on August 16 during a joint operation by the Shin Bet and the Israel Police Northern District’s central investigative unit.

According to investigators, Shibli voiced support for ISIS, viewed content related to the terrorist group and pledged allegiance to the organisation.

Prosecutors filed the indictment with the Nof Hagalil-Nazareth Magistrate’s Court. The case is the fourth indictment brought against a northern resident since August 28 over alleged links to ISIS.
