Germany, Norway to fund Patriot systems for Ukraine
Germany and Norway will make a significant contribution to supplying Ukraine with the American-made Patriot air defence systems.
The announcement came during a joint press conference in Berlin, where German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"Ukraine needs our support. Fortunately, the United States is ready to supply weapons to Ukraine, particularly with financial participation from European partners. Germany and Norway will make an important contribution," said the German head of government.
Støre confirmed Norway’s readiness to participate in the financing effort in cooperation with Germany. However, he emphasised that a final agreement has not yet been reached.
The Norwegian prime minister noted that Germany possesses two Patriot systems it is prepared to transfer to Ukraine, but Berlin wants guarantees that they will be replaced.
Støre also called on the United States to clearly explain the current status of its preparations to supply the Patriot systems to Ukraine.
