Annual Baltic Sea drills focus on crisis response, regional integrity
The Lithuanian National Defence Ministry has announced that "Northern Shores 2024" (Siaures krantai 2024) international exercises were held in the Baltic Sea.
During the exercises, crews honed their skills in tactical maneuvering of ships, air defence, tactical communications, and both underwater and surface combat. The exercises also included indirect fire support through targeting coastal objectives, according to a report from Lithuanian media cited by Caliber.Az.
Over 700 servicemen from nine NATO member-states, namely, Germany, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and the US -participated in Siaures krantai 2024.
The main objective of the exercises was to ensure the security of the region around the Baltic Sea and the territorial integrity of the involved states, as well as to deter potential adversaries in case of a crisis. These exercises are conducted annually based on a specially prepared scenario for crisis operations.
