The Dutch National Criminal Investigation Department (Rijksrecherche) has launched an inquiry into the police use of force, which is standard procedure when incidents result in serious injury or death.
A police spokesperson said: "The police are investigating the fatal stabbing incident. The National Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the use of force by the police. Uses of force by the police in which people are (seriously) injured or which have a fatal outcome are always investigated."

Several ambulances and police vehicles were seen outside the residence as authorities continued their work throughout the morning.
