US envoy: Iran uranium enrichment unacceptable
Representatives of the United States and Iran will hold an important meeting in Europe next week, a senior US official, Steven Whitkoff, said in an interview with ABC.
He emphasised that the negotiations between the two countries are a significant step in the diplomatic process, Caliber.Az reports.
During his remarks, Steven Whitkoff also noted that the US played a key role in bringing Russia and Ukraine closer together. According to him, US efforts have enabled significant progress in talks between Moscow and Kyiv, despite the complicated and tense relations between the countries.
Additionally, Whitkoff highlighted the firm US position on Iran’s nuclear program, stating that Iran cannot enrich uranium. He said this remains a non-negotiable US demand in talks with Tehran.
Steven Whitkoff, special envoy of President Donald Trump, expressed hope that the upcoming phone conversation between the American leader and Russian President Vladimir Putin will be successful and help clear the obstacles.
He said he believes the conversation will be very successful and hopes that following the discussion between the two leaders, it will be possible to clear the obstacles. Whitkoff added that, in the US assessment, direct talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul have led to good achievements.
