Polish president says unresolved issues remain in relations with Ukraine
Polish President Karol Nawrocki has said that Poland and Ukraine still face unresolved issues in their bilateral relations that need to be addressed, while expressing confidence that ties between the two countries will improve.
In an interview with RMF24, Nawrocki said he believed the end of 2025 could mark a new phase in relations between Warsaw and Kyiv. He pointed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent visit to Poland as evidence that Ukraine values good relations with its neighbour, Caliber.Az reports per Ukrainian media.
Nawrocki underlined that Poland and Ukraine share a clear strategic interest in countering the threat posed by Russia, describing this as a rare point of consensus between himself, Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the current Polish government.
At the same time, he stressed that any “new beginning” should be based on a genuine partnership. While such a partnership was already visible in his contacts with Zelenskyy, Nawrocki noted that Poland was now more explicitly articulating its own expectations of Ukraine.
He said it was his responsibility to speak on behalf of the Polish people in relations not only with Ukraine, but also with other key partners such as Germany and Israel.
Within this context, he emphasised that unresolved issues remained in Poland’s relationship with Ukraine and that, as part of a partnership, Poland expected these matters to be addressed.
