Trump warns Iran, vows support for protesters if regime turns violent
US President Donald Trump said the United States is prepared to support protesters in Iran if the authorities use violence against peaceful demonstrators.
The American president wrote on Truth Social that if Iran shoots and violently kills peaceful protesters, as he claimed it routinely does, the United States will come to their rescue, Caliber.Az reports.
“We are locked and loaded and ready to go. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” Trump wrote.
The current wave of demonstrations began in late December 2025 after the Iranian national currency plunged to record lows and inflation surged, prompting shopkeepers and traders to close businesses and take to the streets in Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz and other cities to protest economic hardship and cost-of-living pressures.
Economic distress is at the core of the unrest, driven by decades of sanctions, government mismanagement and structural corruption that have weakened the economy, eroded living standards and depleted public trust in Tehran’s leadership.
The protests have quickly spread geographically and socially, with students and other groups joining in major urban centres, and many demonstrators calling not only for economic reforms but for broader political change and accountability.
