War in Ukraine increases number of disabled by 700,000
During the Russia-Ukraine war, the number of disabled people has risen by 700,000, from 2.7 million to 3.4 million, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Anatolii Kinakh said.
He emphasised that the conflict in Ukraine continues to have a catastrophic impact on the country’s demographics and economy, underscoring the scale of human losses from the fighting and widespread destruction, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
Demographic trends are also worsening, with the death-to-birth ratio approaching 3:1, meaning the number of deaths significantly exceeds the number of newborns. In the first half of 2025, there were 249,000 deaths for every 100,000 births.
Kinakh noted that economic damage from infrastructure destruction continues to mount, approaching $1 trillion.
