UN Security Council to hold emergency meeting on Yemen

The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on the situation in Yemen amid escalating tensions between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia.

The meeting was convened at the request of Bahrain and the United Kingdom following Houthi attacks on Saudi territory, Caliber.Az reports, citing the UN.

London condemned the attacks, saying they pose a threat to regional security and increase the risk of further escalation.

The Houthis have recently intensified attacks on Saudi targets and announced a blockade of Saudi shipping.

This has also increased risks to maritime traffic in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
