Handelsblatt: German companies warn of possible gas shortage
German companies are becoming increasingly concerned about a possible gas shortage, with some warning consumers about potential supply problems, Handelsblatt reports.
The report said the companies include chemical giant Covestro, which has identified risks to its gas supplies ahead of the coming winter.
In addition, gas network operator Westnetz has sent a letter to consumers acknowledging that, due to a combination of weather-related, economic, political and other unforeseen factors, they may not receive the amount of gas they need.
Meanwhile, according to the newspaper, tensions in the gas market are mounting.
The price of gas has risen to almost €80 per megawatt-hour in recent days, two and a half times higher than the level seen before the war.
