German police find notebook with 160-plus sabotage targets

10 September 2026 18:46

German police have found a notebook belonging to a man suspected of organising a series of acts of sabotage targeting electricity infrastructure, containing a list of more than 160 potential targets for attacks, Interior Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia Herbert Reul has said.

Law enforcement authorities detained the 48-year-old resident of Gevelsberg on September 9, Caliber.Az reports, citing German media.

During a search of his camper van, police found a notebook containing the list, Reul told the state parliament’s Committee on Internal Affairs.

“We not only arrested a suspect in the attacks, but may have prevented further attacks,” the minister added.

A patrol spotted a trail near the town of Weisweiler, where the suspect had pitched a tent. He did not resist arrest, the minister clarified.

Reul also commented on the motives of the suspect, who had criticised Germany’s climate and energy policies in a letter previously sent to journalists.
