Ukraine’s Army goes high-tech with massive NATO digital infrastructure aid

24 June 2025 16:38

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence, in cooperation with NATO, has completed a number of joint initiatives aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s digital infrastructure. These efforts have significantly enhanced the ability of the Ukrainian military to operate using modern communications systems.

The developments were disclosed during a meeting in Brussels between Kateryna Chernohorenko, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defence for Digital Development, and officials from NATO’s Digital Staff, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.

Through the Comprehensive Assistance Package (CAP), NATO has already provided Ukraine with satellite communication equipment worth nearly €37 million (approximately $42.9 million). According to the Ministry of Defence, the total cost of the projects underway is expected to exceed €70 million (about $76.2 million) in the near future.

As part of these efforts, Ukraine’s Defence Ministry has also received thousands of laptops, tablets, printers, and server equipment. These are being used to expand the military’s medical information system, which plays a central role in the ongoing reform of the country’s defence forces.

Ukraine has also joined NATO’s key programs in communications, command, and information technologies, thereby improving its interoperability with the Alliance. In addition, NATO is providing technical equipment and organising training programs to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence capabilities.

Ludwig Decamps, Director General of the NATO Communications and Information Agency, emphasised that this partnership is enhancing Ukraine’s digital resilience and creating the foundation for deeper integration with NATO structures.

Deputy Minister Chernohorenko highlighted that NATO’s assistance has been instrumental in launching a large-scale digital transformation of the Ukrainian military, boosting its operational efficiency both on the battlefield and in logistical and support systems.

It should also be noted that back in 2024, NATO representatives proposed establishing a €100 billion fund to support arms supplies to Ukraine and to transfer coordination of Western military assistance from the Ramstein format directly under NATO’s control.
