US–Iran talks begin in Switzerland, Qatar announces
Discussions between the United States and Iran have started in Switzerland under the mediation of Doha and Islamabad, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry has announced.
The United States is represented in the negotiations by Vice President JD Vance, Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, while the Iranian delegation is led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Al Jazeera reports.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry voiced “its aspiration that these meetings will lead to the conclusion of a comprehensive and permanent agreement addressing all aspects covered in the Memorandum of Understanding,”
It also stated that Qatar will continue cooperating with Pakistan and “all concerned parties to create a positive environment that enables the negotiations to achieve their objectives, based on its firm belief that dialogue and diplomacy represent the optimal path for addressing conflicts and resolving disputes.”
