X CEO steps down after two-year tenure
Former NBCUniversal executive Linda Yaccarino has officially announced her resignation as CEO of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, after two years in the role.
In a public statement shared on X, Yaccarino reflected on what she described as an “incredible” period leading the company through a transformative phase under the ownership of Elon Musk, Caliber.Az reports.
“When Ellon Musk and I first discussed his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime,” Yaccarino wrote, thanking Musk for entrusting her with the mission of reshaping the company. “I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.”
Yaccarino highlighted several achievements during her leadership, including what she called a “historic business turnaround,” early initiatives to boost user safety—particularly for children—and efforts to restore advertiser confidence after a period of uncertainty.
She also credited the X team for innovations such as Community Notes and the upcoming launch of X Money, as well as expanding the platform's influence by attracting prominent voices and content creators.
Yaccarino did not specify her future plans but confirmed she will remain active on the platform. She concluded her statement with a note of encouragement for the team and users as the company enters what she called “a new chapter with XAI,” Musk’s artificial intelligence venture.
Yaccarino was appointed CEO in 2023, months after Musk acquired the platform for $44 billion.
