Britain’s wealthiest businessman dies, leaving $46 billion legacy
Britain’s richest man, businessman Gopi Hinduja, has died at the age of 85 after a long illness.
The total wealth of the Hinduja family, of Indian origin, is estimated at £35.3 billion (around $46.1 billion), the Financial Times (FT) reports, citing sources.
The family controls the Hinduja Group, a conglomerate with investments across multiple sectors, including banking, real estate, oil, automotive manufacturing, and entertainment.
Hinduja joined the family business in 1959 and helped transform it into a major international enterprise.
The company was founded in India in the early 20th century, with its main overseas office located in Tehran until the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Hinduja and his elder brother Srichand moved to London in the 1980s, from where they managed the operations of the Hinduja Group.
Srichand Hinduja passed away in 2023.
