VP: New milestone begins in Türkiye’s history on path to regional stability

    REGION  28 May 2023 - 14:53

Turkish Vice-President Fuat Oktay has said that a new milestone begins in Türkiye’s history on May 28, which marks a new contribution to the stability of the region and the world as a whole.

Oktay made the remarks after the voting in the second round of the presidential election on May 28, Caliber.Az reports.

He called on the country’s citizens to actively participate in the electoral process.

"It's our civic duty. Because there are five long years ahead of us. I wish the elections go for the good of Türkiye and its people," Oktay said.

Voting for the second round of the presidential election is taking place in Türkiye on May 28.

In the first round of the elections held on May 14, Recep Tayyip Erdogan got 49.52 per cent of the votes, while Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the leader of the opposition, got 44.88 per cent and Sinan Ogan, the former presidential candidate from ATA Alliance, got 5.17 per cent. Voter turnout was 88.92 per cent.

Sinan Ogan later spoke out in support of the incumbent president.

With no candidate winning more than 50 per cent of the votes in the first round, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kemal Kilicdaroglu continue their fight in the second round.
