Lavrov: Russia, US reaffirm commitment to renewing dialogue on Iran
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that both Moscow and Washington agree on the need to resume talks on the Iranian issue, describing it as essential for de-escalating tensions in the region.
Lavrov revealed that the subject of Iran was a central point in a telephone conversation held the previous day between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“The Iranian file was one of the key topics during the phone call between our leaders yesterday,” Lavrov said, speaking at a press conference in Moscow following talks with his Saudi counterpart.
“We are in contact with both the Iranian side — Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recently held extensive discussions with President Putin in Moscow — and our American colleagues. The shared view was that everything must be done to relaunch negotiations.”
Lavrov added that Saudi Arabia also supported this position.
