Russia temporarily bans export of cartridges, bullets

    REGION  31 May 2023 - 13:07

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree on the ban on the export of cartridges for civil and service rifles from the country and cartridge cases for rifled firearms of certain calibres.

The ban will be valid until 31 December 2023, RBC reports per the corresponding statement on May 31.

"The decision is aimed at protecting the interests of the state," the report noted.

It was clarified that the ban does not apply to cartridges and shells intended to support the activities of the Russian Armed Forces and other troops and military formations.

In the statement, it was stated that the relevant decision was aimed at protecting the interests of Russia and was taken within the framework of the decree of the President of the Russian Federation.

Notably, one of the paragraphs of the decree is classified - marked "for official use”.

In the spring of 2022, the government imposed a ban on exports from Russia to unfriendly countries of a number of foreign-made goods and equipment, including tanks, gas generators, turbines, and internal combustion engines.

In November 2022, the list was amended to include helicopters (Mi-2, Mi-8, Mi-17, Mi-26, and any of their variations) and their components, firearms, drones that can fly for over half an hour, radio frequency drone jammers, explosives, optical sights, armoured vehicles, missile-carrying vehicles, and rocket fuel.
