Lockheed Martin to demonstrate F-16 Block 70 in Türkiye

Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer of the F-16 Block 70 fighter jet, will take part in the International Defence Industry Exhibition IDEF'23, which will be held in Türkiye.

The Turkish defence and aerospace industry is preparing to demonstrate its capabilities at the International Defence Industry Exhibition IDEF'23, which will be held from July 25 to 28, 2023.

This year, the American company Lockheed Martin will take part in the IDEF'23 exhibition. The American company, which restricted its participation in IDEF after the embargo on the F-35, which began after the CAATSA sanctions, will promote its products using scale models this year. It is assumed that among the products to be presented by Lockheed Martin, there is also a military aircraft F-16 Blok 70, which Türkiye wants to purchase.

Jet aircraft undergoing the F-16 Block 70/72 upgrade are usually classified as Generation 4++, as they will undergo equipment and design upgrades compared to other F-16s. The most important stage in the modernization of Viper is the replacement of the existing radar system with the APG-83 Active Phased Array (AESA) radar from Northrop Grumman.

With the integration of the APG-83 radar, the situational awareness of the F-16 will increase significantly.

In addition, the F-16 Block 70/72 will have a 6 x 8-inch CPD (high-resolution display), an automatic ground collision avoidance system (GCAS) and more technological combat modules that will allow for more efficient use of the AESA radar and control of container data.

In addition, new ammunition and missile systems, especially the AGM-88E, will be integrated into the aircraft. A new generation of electronic warfare equipment, an IRST unit and new guidance units will be available to the aircraft.

It is expected that Türkiye's request for "40 F-16 Block 70 fighters" and "79 F-16 Block 70 upgrade kits" will soon be approved by the US authorities.
