Armenia identifies source of fake audio claiming Pashinyan urged opposition arrests
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has identified the source of a recently circulated fake audio recording falsely attributed to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, according to Armenian media reports cited by Caliber.Az.
In an interview with Armenian Public Television, the committee chairman, Artur Pogosyan, stated, “It was clear from the beginning that the recording was fabricated. We will determine the motive behind it, but in my opinion, the main goal was to discredit state institutions, question our actions, and present them in a distorted light.”
Pogosyan added that a criminal case has been opened under charges of computer fraud. “The Investigative Committee has a specialised unit dedicated to solving such crimes. We have already gathered some information during the investigation, identified the source, and will soon issue an official statement on the matter,” he said.
Earlier, Armenian media reported that a fake audio recording had been circulated on the Internet, purportedly featuring Prime Minister Pashinyan urging law enforcement leaders to find ways to arrest opposition figures — a claim denied by the authorities.
