Russian embassy claims European cooperation on long-range missile development

04 September 2026 09:36

The Russian Embassy in Germany says a European country is cooperating with France and the United Kingdom on a project to develop long-range missile systems, warning that facilities used to deploy such weapons could potentially be considered military targets.

The embassy said the reported project is intended to strengthen Germany’s long-range strike capabilities as part of efforts to deter Russia, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media

“In the interest of deterring Russia, the need for the Bundeswehr to have the capability to strike targets deep behind enemy lines at a distance of up to 2,000 kilometers is being emphasized. The relevant work is being carried out through military-technical cooperation with European allies, primarily with Paris and London,” a diplomatic mission official told Izvestia.

The embassy did not provide further details about the project or identify specific potential deployment locations.

Separately, Russian forces had destroyed a warehouse in Kyiv where “Flamingo” missiles were allegedly being stored. According to the report, the missile system has a claimed range of up to 3,000 kilometres.

The “Flamingo” system contains no Ukrainian-made components. Composite materials are sourced from European countries, electronic components are supplied by the United Kingdom, and fuel comes from Denmark.
