Türkiye foils suspected terror attack plot in Istanbul

A 21-year-old man suspected of links to the terrorist organisation ISIS was neutralised during a security operation in Istanbul after opening fire on police officers, according to TRT Haber.

The operation took place in the Sultanbeyli district as part of a joint effort by Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organisation (MİT) and the Istanbul Security Directorate.

According to law enforcement authorities, the suspect, identified as Berkan Ç., was allegedly preparing to carry out a terrorist attack in Türkiye.

Police returned fire after he opened fire during the attempted detention. The suspect was neutralised, while one civilian was injured in the exchange.

The investigation is continuing.
