Drone attack targets Sochi air defence unit, oil depot PHOTO

An air defence unit near Sochi was attacked during overnight drone strikes, while a fire broke out at an oil depot, according to ASTRA.

Residents of Sochi reported hearing numerous explosions during the night of September 4.

ASTRA said its analysis of footage from eyewitnesses indicated that a fire broke out near the settlement of Sirius, close to the Psou River on the border with Abkhazia. The area is home to a Russian S-300 or S-400 air defence system.

ASTRA said the same area had previously been targeted in an attempted attack in May.

Local media have also reported the installation of a large radar near Krylya Baltiki beach in the area.

The Sirius area has been targeted by drones several times.

Local authorities said Sochi and the Sirius federal territory were targeted in a “massive drone attack” overnight. They said debris was found at several locations and that there were no casualties according to preliminary information.

Several residential buildings and other structures suffered damage to windows, while some fires were quickly extinguished. A fire was also reported at an oil depot, authorities said.
