2026 and 2028 Olympic Games not to be broadcast in Russia
Russia and Belarus are not allowed to participate in the tender for the acquisition of television rights to show the Olympic Games.
This was reported in a press release from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Gazeta.ru reports.
Tender documents were accepted until 25 April. The organization evaluated applications on their ability to meet the highest standards of broadcast quality, their ability to reach the widest possible audience, their commitment to promoting the Olympic Games and the value of the Olympic Movement, and their financial proposal.
The 2026 Olympic Games will be held in two cities in Italy, and in 2028 in Los Angeles (USA).
The Russian team at the last Olympics in China won 32 medals - 6 gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze. Most of this collection was brought by Russian skiers. They have won 11 awards. Six medals were won by figure skaters, four more medals were won by domestic biathletes.
The team of Norway became the leader of the medal standings, Germany was in the second place, and the hosts of the competition, representatives of China, rounded out the top three. The Russian team, in the ranking based on the number of gold awards, became the ninth.
