Iran releases footage from drone monitoring US carrier group crossing Strait of Hormuz VIDEO

30 November 2023 13:04

Iran has released drone footage monitoring the USS Dwight D Eisenhower aircraft carrier and its strike group as it sailed through the Strait of Hormuz.

The US Naval Task Force, which has now reached the Gulf, was reportedly tracked using various surveillance technologies by the Iranian military, forces.net website reports.

Posting on X, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced: "The Carrier Strike Group Eisenhower (IKECSG) completed a transit of the Strait of Hormuz to enter the waters of the Arabian Gulf as the Strike Group continues to support USCENTCOM missions."

It added: "While in the Arabian Gulf, the IKECSG are patrolling to ensure freedom of navigation in key international waterways while supporting CENTCOM requirements throughout the region."

Meanwhile, US forces rescued an Israeli-affiliated cargo ship after it was hijacked off the coast of Yemen.

The Pentagon press secretary said USS Mason and allied ships from the coalition counter-piracy task force (TF 151) responded to a distress call from the MV Central Park in the Gulf of Aden.

After the arrival of the US warship, five armed individuals disembarked the commercial vessel and attempted to flee in a small boat.

US Air Force Brigadier General Pat Ryder told the Pentagon press corps: "The Mason sent out a visit, board, search and seizure team on the water that stopped the small boat.

"They detained the individuals, and then ... boarded the [MV] Central Park and cleared the vessel."

Gen Ryder added that the Central Park crew members were found to be safe following the incident.

The Eisenhower carrier strike group will be joining the Gerald R Ford Carrier Strike Group in the Eastern Mediterranean to deter escalation in the region in support of Israel.

The move is in response to Hamas's surprise attack on 7 October which marked the beginning of a new phase of confrontation between Palestinian factions in Gaza and Israel.

The Royal Navy and French navy have also deployed ships to the region.
