Pakistan's PM to address nation amid rising tensions with India
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to address the nation in a televised speech this evening as tensions escalate between Pakistan and India, government sources confirmed on May 10.
The move comes in the wake of recent Indian missile and drone strikes that reportedly targeted civilian areas and strategic installations, including the Noor Khan Airbase. Prime Minister Shehbaz has condemned the attacks, describing them as acts of aggression, and assured the public that Pakistan has taken retaliatory measures in response, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Ahead of his address, the prime minister held telephonic consultations with key political leaders to brief them on the situation and garner national consensus. He reached out to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, Balochistan Awami Party’s Khalid Magsi, and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q)’s Chaudhry Salik Hussain.
The prime minister reportedly briefed the leaders on the nature of the Indian strikes and the measures taken by the government to ensure national security and protect critical infrastructure.
