China offers to mediate as India and Pakistan face mounting military conflict

10 May 2025 11:31

China has called on India and Pakistan to de-escalate their ongoing tensions and return to a path of peaceful resolution.

Offering to play a constructive role in the process, China emphasised the importance of restraint in preventing further violence, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

A representative from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the statement, urging both countries to prioritise peace and stability. “We strongly call on India and Pakistan to maintain calm and restraint, return to a peaceful political resolution, and avoid actions that would escalate tensions further,” the Ministry said.

China’s stance aligns with the core interests of both nations, as well as the broader regional peace and stability, and is in line with the expectations of the international community. The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of China’s commitment to playing a constructive role in helping to resolve the conflict.

The renewed conflict began with India’s launch of “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, which saw the Indian Air Force carry out airstrikes on targets in Pakistan’s Punjab province and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. India described these targets as terrorist infrastructure.

In retaliation, Pakistan condemned the Indian actions as an “act of war” and authorised counterattacks. The Pakistani National Security Council also approved additional military measures. Both countries have reported casualties, including fatalities and injuries.

On May 10, Pakistan launched a significant military operation in retaliation for India’s airstrikes. The Pakistani Army carried out precision strikes on key Indian military installations. Islamabad reported significant casualties among Indian forces and stated that the operations are ongoing.
