Finland hunts mystery drone in remote Parikkala area
Authorities in southeastern Finland’s Parikkala area are searching for a drone, local police confirmed.
Senior Commissioner Jukka Tulli told Yle [Finnish Broadcasting Company] that search operations began on the afternoon of April 1 and are still ongoing, Caliber.Az reports.
According to him, an anonymous tip was considered credible enough to launch the search. The drone is being sought north of Rautalahti with the help of police and border guard drones. Due to the difficult terrain, it is currently unclear how long the operation will take.
Tulli emphasised that no evacuation of residents is required, as the suspected crash site is far from inhabited buildings.
Police are cooperating with the Southeastern Finland Border Guard District to conduct the investigation.
Deputy Commander Antti Virta noted that the probe is being carried out by police forces, and no additional comments have been provided so far.
Finland has previously located three drones that had gone off course.
