Chinese, Bahraini foreign ministers discuss Strait of Hormuz situation
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation with Gulf Cooperation Council chairman and Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, focusing on shipping and navigation challenges in the Strait of Hormuz.
Al Zayani expressed Bahrain’s readiness to support efforts to address freedom of navigation in the Strait at the UN Security Council and emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation with China, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Wang Yi highlighted the need to reduce tensions, halt hostilities, and restore dialogue.
He stated that China and Pakistan recently put forward a five-point plan aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and the Middle East. The initiative calls for halting attacks on civilians and non-military targets, securing the Strait of Hormuz, and ensuring the safe resumption of normal shipping routes.
Chinese FM emphasised that a ceasefire and the end of hostilities remain the shared goal of the international community, noting that UN Security Council actions should focus on reducing tensions and facilitating a return to negotiations, rather than legitimising unlawful military actions or worsening the conflict.
