Powerful tremor hits Indonesia, authorities assess damage photo

A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia in the Molucca Sea, causing significant damage on nearby islands.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake occurred at a depth of about 35 kilometres, roughly 126 kilometres northwest of the city of Ternate in North Maluku province.
Reports indicate substantial destruction, while concerns remain over possible casualties and injuries. Authorities initially issued a tsunami warning following the quake, but it was later lifted.
