Seoul, Ottawa strengthen naval ties with joint exercise
The navies of South Korea and Canada conducted a joint naval exercise this week off Canada’s west coast, Seoul’s military said on Saturday, June 7, in a move aimed at strengthening combined operational capabilities.
According to the South Korean military, cited by Yonhap, the drill involved the 3,000-ton submarine ROKS Dosan Ahn Chang-ho, the 3,100-ton frigate Daejeon, and naval helicopters.
Canadian forces participating in the exercise included the submarine HMCS Corner Brook, the frigate Ottawa, and CH-148 shipborne helicopters.
South Korea’s Navy said the exercise focused on enhancing interoperability between the two countries’ naval forces. The drills included anti-ship live-fire exercises and anti-submarine warfare operations.
