Thousands protest EU migration pact in Budapest VIDEO
Thousands of protesters gathered in Budapest on Friday, June 5, to oppose the expected adoption of the European Union’s Migration Pact, in one of the largest demonstrations in the Hungarian capital in recent months.
According to The Hungary Post, demonstrators marched through the city centre, chanting “traitor” and “betrayal” as they headed first toward the headquarters of the TISZA party and later to the parliament building.
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar briefly appeared on the balcony of his party’s headquarters, greeting supporters and waving the national flag. He was joined by several members of his political circle.

His appearance prompted a louder reaction from the crowd, with protesters intensifying chants of “traitor” and “shame”. Some demonstrators also called for his resignation and invoked the anti-migration stance of Hungary’s previous government.
Organisers said the protest was rooted in long-standing opposition to EU migration policies, noting that Hungary rejected similar measures in a 2016 referendum, when a majority of voters opposed the bloc’s proposed migrant quota system.
The EU Migration Pact is scheduled to come into force on June 12.
