Italian fighter jets down drone after it enters Lithuanian airspace

Italian fighter jets shot down a drone over Lithuania, the Lithuanian Armed Forces announced.

The drone’s wreckage has already been found, while military personnel and Lithuanian police are currently working at the site, Caliber.Az reports.

“NATO air defence responded—the threat was neutralised. At around 00:20, Italian fighter jets scrambled from Šiauliai and shot down an identified drone in Lithuanian airspace. Debris was found and the site secured,” the Lithuanian Armed Forces said in a post on X.

Vilmantas Vitkauskas, head of Lithuania’s National Crisis Management Centre, stressed that police and military police were operating in an intensified mode.

“We need to assess the situation, collect the wreckage, determine what kind of object it was and what its purpose was… The wreckage does not yet allow us to determine whether it was a combat drone,” he added.
