Sweden allocates hundreds of millions for drone defence
Sweden is allocating 8.7 billion kronor (around €794 million) for the purchase of the Gute II counter-drone system, Defence Minister Pål Jonson announced.
Deliveries of the system are expected in 2027–2028, Caliber.Az reports per Swedish media.
“Now more than ever, it is important to invest in air defence capabilities. Protection against aerial threats is a government priority, and we will continue to make acquisitions to strengthen Sweden’s defence,” Jonson emphasised.
The Gute II is a radar-gun system that can be deployed both stationary and on vehicles. It is designed to protect military units as well as critical infrastructure, including nuclear power plants and railway hubs. The system combines components from multiple companies, with Swedish participation from BAE Systems and Saab.
Earlier this year, the Swedish government announced a 15 billion kronor (approximately €1.3 billion) investment in air defence development.
