Finland terminates agreement on cross-border cooperation with Russia

30 November 2023 19:52

The government of Finland has decided to end the agreement on cross-border cooperation with Russia, Gazeta.ru reports citing the statement of the Finnish government.

This decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting held on November 30.

The move comes after Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree in October, stating that the Russian Federation also intends to terminate the agreement with Finland on promoting cross-border cooperation.

This decree is expected to take effect on January 24, 2024.

According to Finnish authorities, Russia sent a note to Helsinki on October 25 to this effect. As a result, the Cabinet of Finland issued its decree cancelling the agreement on the development of cross-border cooperation with Russia.

The statement mentions that the decision will come into effect on January 24 next year.
