Tusk: Historical disputes should not divide Poland, Ukraine

18 September 2026 16:52

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said historical disputes should not prevent Poland and Ukraine from maintaining close cooperation and supporting Kyiv in its war against Russia.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Carpathian Summit at the presidential residence in Huta, Ukraine, Tusk said the two countries remained “close friends, allies, and partners” despite sensitive issues between them, Caliber.Az reports per Ukrainian media

“Nothing will change my view that Poland must support Ukraine in the war against Russia, and we will continue this support without a doubt,” Tusk said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the two countries could hold different political views, adding that such differences were normal between partners.

He stressed that Poland and Ukraine should remain “mature partners” and focus on issues that unite them.

“We are friends, and Russia is the enemy,” Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian president also pointed to cooperation in security, energy and infrastructure as areas that could further strengthen ties between Kyiv and Warsaw.
