Bulgaria to start receiving Azeri gas through IGB in autumn
01 July 2022 18:41
Starting today, Bulgaria will start receiving the entire quantities of natural gas under the contract with Azerbaijan.
The transportation of the full contracted volume (1 billion cubic meters a year) will be carried out not by the 182-kilometer-long Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB), but through a temporary delivery point in Nea Mesimvria, APA reports quoting the Bulgarian press.
It should be noted that due to the delay of the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria commissioning (to be commissioned by the end of 2020) Azerbaijani gas was temporarily transported to Bulgaria via the existing interconnector lines in the Greek border point (Kula-Sidirokastro) that limited the transportation volumes.
According to the executive director of the project company ICQB (the operator of the project) Theodora Georgieva, IGB will start work in September-October of this year.
The report notes that at present the main construction works of IGB have been completed and the pipeline is being tested.
