Azerbaijan, Romania see trade surge, reaching over $244 million in first quarter of 2025
The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee has said that trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Romania surged in the first quarter of 2025, with total bilateral turnover reaching $244.2 million — more than double the figure recorded during the same period last year.
The sharp rise in trade was driven primarily by a significant increase in Azerbaijani exports to Romania, Caliber.Az reports.
Exports grew 2.3 times year-on-year to $227.8 million, raising Romania’s share in Azerbaijan’s total exports to 3.57 per cent, up from 1.68 per cent in the first quarter of 2024.
Imports from Romania also showed steady growth, climbing 13.2 per cent to $16.4 million. Despite this increase, Romania’s share in Azerbaijan’s overall import portfolio fell slightly to 0.29 per cent, compared to 0.39 per cent during the same period last year.
Earlier, Azerbaijan and Romania held talks on gas deliveries and broader energy cooperation.
Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with his Romanian counterpart, Sebastian-Ioan Burduja, in Istanbul to discuss a range of energy issues.
Romania and Azerbaijan have significantly advanced their energy cooperation, focusing on renewable energy and regional energy security. A central initiative is the Caspian–Black Sea–European Green Energy Corridor, which aims to transmit green electricity from Azerbaijan to Europe via a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea cable across the Black Sea.
