Azerbaijan’s Zangazur power line reaches 97% completion VIDEO
Azerbaijan’s state-owned company Azerenergy is nearing completion of the first phase of the Zangazur transmission line project, which will connect the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to Azerbaijan’s main power grid and form part of an international energy corridor linking Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan, Türkiye and Europe.
A 330-kilovolt double-circuit transmission line with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts has been constructed along a 74-kilometre section between Jabrayil and Aghband, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The project has involved the installation of 296 transmission towers, each standing up to 45 metres high and weighing more than 30 tons. Construction is currently 97% complete and has been finished ahead of schedule despite challenging climatic conditions.
The next stages will involve the construction of the 100-kilometre Ordubad–Nakhchivan transmission line, a 44-kilometre section running through the Zangazur Corridor and a 230-kilometre Nakhchivan–Türkiye line.
The project is expected to play a strategic role in fully integrating Nakhchivan into Azerbaijan’s unified power grid and reducing its reliance on external frequency regulation. It is also intended to facilitate access to European energy markets and support the transmission of renewable energy.
Azerenergy considers the Zangazur transmission project one of the largest energy infrastructure initiatives in Azerbaijan’s history.
