Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum should focus on AI, minister says

11 September 2026 14:23

Artificial intelligence and digital transformation should become new priority areas of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum, says Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov.

Speaking at the forum in Baku, Azerbaijan, he noted that the energy projects both countries are implementing today and those that are planned for the future will serve not only the prosperity of two brotherly countries, but also the strengthening of stability in the region as a whole, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The minister outlined that, as in all strategic processes, Azerbaijan considers Türkiye its closest and most reliable ally on the path towards a clean energy future.

“The energy transition is already inseparably linked to digitalisation and artificial intelligence. In the future, competitive advantage will belong not only to countries that produce more energy, but also to those that manage energy data efficiently and turn it into value through artificial intelligence. In this regard, it is already a necessity of our time for our strategic energy partnership to also cover artificial intelligence and digital transformation,” Shahbazov stressed.

Shahbazov also addressed plants currently under construction in Azerbaijan’s Kalbajar and Lachin regions, claiming both projects will be commissioned by the end of this year.

According to him, measurement and assessment work is currently being carried out on a 240-MW wind power plant project in Kalbajar.

“At the same time, cooperation opportunities with Turkish investors on solar power plants with a total capacity of 1,000 MW in Nakhchivan are being considered. Taking into account the Memorandum of Understanding recently signed on energy efficiency in buildings, we also invite Turkish investors to actively cooperate in this area,” he added.
