Azerbaijan and Türkiye have discussed the development of electricity links, a strategic partnership between the two countries, which has reached the level of an alliance in recent years.

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy said the sides – Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and his Turkish counterpart Alparslan Bayraktar – stressed the role of joint projects in ensuring the energy security of the region as a whole during a meeting held in Baku as part of the 5th Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum, Caliber.Az reports.

Officials noted growing energy demand amid changes in the global energy architecture and accelerated electrification is increasing the strategic importance of cross-border electricity interconnections.

In this context, the talks focused on developing electricity links between Azerbaijan and Türkiye via Nakhchivan and Georgia, expanding green energy corridors, as well as opportunities for cooperation within the framework of the “Caspian Sea-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor” project.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on cooperation within the framework of COP31, which will be held in Türkiye in November this year.

The sides reviewed events planned as part of the Energy and Transport Day at COP31, as well as opportunities to continue energy initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan during its COP29 presidency.

The parties stressed that joint projects on electricity interconnections and green energy corridors are in line with COP31 priorities on the transition to clean energy.

Parviz Shahbazov stated that Azerbaijan was ready to support brotherly Türkiye by sharing its experience gained during its COP29 presidency.
