Italy remains top buyer of Azerbaijani oil despite 11.4% drop
Azerbaijan exported the largest volume of oil to Italy in January-July 2026, with shipments totalling 7.47 million tonnes, down 11.4% from the same period in 2025, according to data from Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.
The data showed that the value of oil exports to Italy rose 3.1% to $4.56 billion, Calibre.Az reports.
The Czech Republic ranked second, purchasing 802,369.65 tonnes of Azerbaijani oil, down 21.9%, for $562.12 million, up 2.7%.
Romania ranked third, with purchases rising 19.7% to 821,311.27 tonnes, worth $522.2 million, up 38.1%.
The remaining countries in the top 10 were India, which purchased 491,171.24 tonnes worth $376.11 million; Bulgaria — 358,842.99 tonnes worth $253.11 million; Tunisia — 368,916.34 tonnes worth $225.47 million; Portugal — 395,031.62 tonnes worth $221.96 million; Germany — 360,299 tonnes worth $210.86 million; Switzerland — 272,501.37 tonnes worth $193.6 million; and Greece — 284,374.74 tonnes worth $182.76 million.
According to the State Customs Committee, Azerbaijan exported a total of 12.72 million tonnes of oil in January-July 2026, down 12.1% year on year, while the value of exports rose 4.9% to $8.03 billion.
As previously reported, Azerbaijan exported 23.38 million tonnes of oil to 22 countries in 2025, down 0.9% from 2024, with the value of exports falling 16.3% to $12.09 billion.
