Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan push toward $1 billion trade milestone Interview by Minister Jabbarov

24 August 2026 18:57

Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov has highlighted the importance of expanding economic ties with Uzbekistan, including a target to increase bilateral trade turnover to $1 billion.

Speaking in an interview with Uzbekistan 24, Jabbarov said the agreement setting the trade target, signed during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Uzbekistan, would play an important role in further strengthening relations between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports.

The minister also welcomed the successful conclusion of the Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan Interregional Forum, saying the agreements reached during the event would help launch joint projects and broaden bilateral economic cooperation.

Jabbarov pointed to the growing significance of projects involving Azerbaijan’s SOCAR and AzerGold in Uzbekistan, describing them as important elements of the expanding economic partnership.

He also praised Uzbekistan’s support for the reconstruction of Azerbaijan’s territories liberated from occupation, particularly the construction of the Mirzo Ulugbek School at the initiative of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Jabbarov said Baku and Tashkent have “very significant work” ahead as they seek to implement the agreements reached by their leaders.

“We will actively work together to implement the instructions of the heads of state,” he said.
