Armenia suspends CSTO participation, citing threats to sovereignty But assures continued EAEU relations
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Armenia has suspended its participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), citing concerns that the organization poses threats to the country's sovereignty.
Pashinyan made these remarks during the 2nd Armenian Global Summit, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“The CSTO creates threats to Armenia's security, its future existence, and sovereignty,” the prime minister said.
He elaborated that Armenia has reached a critical juncture in its relationship with the CSTO, emphasizing that the organization has failed to address the issues raised by Armenia.
Moreover, Pashinyan warned that continued inaction from the CSTO brings the country closer to severing ties with the organization entirely.
Despite this move, Pashinyan assured that Armenia has no intentions of diminishing its economic relations with Russia or leaving the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
He stated, “Armenia has no task to reduce the volume of trade turnover or break economic ties with Russia and the EAEU.”
