Azerbaijan advances construction of three new 8,000-tonne tankers PHOTO
Construction of three new tankers is underway at the Baku Shipyard under an order from ASCO, part of the AZCON holding, with work progressing on schedule.
Mehman Mehdiyev, head of the press service of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO), told Caliber.Az that as of today, 27% of work has been completed on one of the vessels, while the other two are about 22% complete.
The new tankers, with a deadweight of 8,000 tonnes, are being built according to an innovative design that meets modern international standards, including the highest safety and environmental requirements.
Their special design will allow the vessels to enter shallow ports at full load, significantly increasing operational flexibility and providing important commercial advantages.
Previously, four national tankers were constructed and delivered at the Baku Shipyard under ASCO orders. Among them, “Lachin” and “Kalbajar” are used for transporting oil and petroleum products, while “Akademik Khoshbakht Yusifzade” and “Zangilan” can carry both oil and chemical products.
The three tankers currently under construction are part of the same project as “Akademik Khoshbakht Yusifzade” and “Zangilan”.
