Azerbaijan calls for immediate resumption of peace talks with Armenia
Azerbaijan and Armenia must immediately resume peace negotiations, Azerbaijani presidential representative on special assignments Ambassador Elchin Amirbayov has said.
Amirbayov was answering questions of Michael Doran, director of the Centre for Peace and Security in the Middle East at the US Hudson Institute, and Luke Coffey, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, according to Report.
“Peace negotiations should be immediately resumed, discussions of the border delimitation and, of course, the restoration of routes should be resumed. These are three main directions of the peace process having great prospects,” he said.
The ambassador noted that the self-dissolution of the illegal regime in Garabagh has removed the main stumbling block to broader peace in the region.
He also emphasised that Azerbaijan has eliminated another obstacle - the illegal military presence of Armenian forces on its sovereign territory.
The Azerbaijani presidential representative noted that Azerbaijan is engaged in an active dialogue with the Armenian residents of Garabagh, while the plans for reintegration cover various spheres within which the Garabagh Armenians could use their social, economic, political, cultural and religious rights.
